Be Strong and Courageous

Saturday, February 1, 2025

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Today’s Scripture Lesson

Life presents us with challenges that can feel overwhelming. Whether it's stepping into a new season, facing uncertainty, or battling fear, we often need reassurance that we are not alone. Joshua 1:9 is God’s powerful command and promise to His people: to be strong and courageous, not because of their own strength, but because He is with them.

When God gave this instruction to Joshua, Israel was standing on the edge of the Promised Land. The task before them was daunting—there were battles ahead, unknown challenges, and new responsibilities. Joshua may have felt fear and uncertainty, but God reminded him of a key truth: His presence would go with them.

This verse applies to us today in the same way. Strength and courage are not about being fearless on our own but about trusting in God’s presence. Fear and discouragement lose their power when we believe that the Almighty God is walking with us. No matter what situation you are facing—a big decision, a difficult season, or an unexpected challenge—God’s promise remains: You are not alone.

How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life

  1. Replace Fear with Faith: When you feel afraid, remind yourself that God is with you. Speak His promises over your situation.
  2. Step Forward in Confidence: Trust that God has equipped you for the journey ahead. Take the next step knowing He is guiding you.
  3. Seek God’s Presence Daily: Spend time in prayer and the Word, allowing His presence to strengthen and encourage you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promise to always be with me. When fear and discouragement creep in, remind me that I am not alone. Give me the strength and courage to trust You fully in every situation. Help me to walk in faith, knowing that Your presence goes before me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
