“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” – Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)
Today’s Scripture Lesson
In this passage, Paul reminds us that as followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His character in the way we live and interact with others. Just as we put on clothing each day, we are to clothe ourselves with godly virtues—choosing to walk in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
These qualities are not always easy to display, especially when we encounter difficult people or challenging situations. That’s why Paul emphasizes the importance of bearing with one another and offering forgiveness—just as Christ has forgiven us. When we remember how much grace we have received, it becomes easier to extend that same grace to others.
Above all, we are to put on love, which holds everything together. Love is the foundation of all these virtues, guiding our actions and shaping our relationships. It is the love of Christ working in us that enables us to live in unity and reflect His goodness to the world.
This passage is a beautiful reminder that our identity is found in Christ. As God’s chosen people, we are holy and dearly loved—and because of this, we are called to live differently. Every day, we have the opportunity to “put on” Christ’s character and show His love to those around us.

- Choose Forgiveness: Let go of past hurts and extend grace to those who have wronged you, just as Christ forgave you.
- Walk in Love: Make love the foundation of all you do, striving to reflect Christ’s love in your words and actions.
