Micah 6:8

Saturday, January 25, 2025

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8 (NIV)

Today’s Scripture Lesson:

What does God desire from us? Micah 6:8 gives us a beautifully clear and simple answer: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. These three actions encapsulate what it means to live a life that pleases the Lord.

“To act justly” means to live with integrity and fairness in all our dealings. It calls us to stand up for what is right and to treat others with equity, reflecting God’s justice in our actions.

“To love mercy” goes deeper than just being kind. It calls us to delight in showing compassion, forgiveness, and grace to others, just as God has shown mercy to us. Loving mercy transforms our relationships, helping us to see people through the lens of God’s love.

“To walk humbly with your God” reminds us of our dependence on the Lord. Walking humbly means recognizing that we are not self-sufficient and surrendering to God’s guidance and wisdom. It’s about living in a way that honors God, prioritizing His will over our own.

This verse isn’t about earning God’s favor but about responding to His love with a life that reflects His character. It reminds us that the Christian walk is practical and relational, rooted in justice, mercy, and humility.

How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life

  1. Pursue Justice: Look for ways to advocate for fairness and stand up for those who are marginalized or oppressed.
  2. Practice Mercy: Extend forgiveness and compassion to those who have wronged you, reflecting God’s mercy in your life.
  3. Walk in Humility: Spend time in prayer and worship, acknowledging your need for God and seeking His direction daily.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for showing me what is good and what You desire from my life. Help me to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You every day. Give me the strength and wisdom to reflect Your character in all I do. May my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
