“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
Today’s Scripture Lesson:
In a world where achievements often define our worth, Ephesians 2:8-9 offers a powerful reminder that salvation is not something we can earn—it is a gift freely given by God.
Grace is God’s undeserved favor. It’s His kindness poured out on us, even when we don’t deserve it. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, God made a way for us to be forgiven and restored to Him. Our role is simply to receive this gift by faith—believing in Christ and trusting in His work, not our own efforts.
Imagine being given an expensive gift, one you could never afford. You wouldn’t try to pay the giver back—you would simply accept it with gratitude. Salvation works the same way. No amount of good deeds or moral effort can earn God’s favor. Instead, we are called to humbly accept His grace, knowing it is a reflection of His love, not our merit.
This truth brings freedom. It removes the pressure to strive for perfection and allows us to rest in the finished work of Christ. At the same time, it humbles us, leaving no room for pride or boasting. Our salvation points entirely to God’s goodness and generosity.
How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life:
- Pray to Receive Salvation: If you have not yet trusted Jesus as your Savior, take a moment to pray and invite Him into your life. Confess your need for His grace and ask Him to forgive your sins and make you new.
- Live Gratefully: Let your life be a response of gratitude for what God has done, serving Him out of love, not obligation.
- Share the Gift: Tell others about God’s grace and the free gift of salvation available through faith in Christ.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me by Your grace and not by my works. Help me to fully trust in what Christ has done and rest in the assurance of Your gift of salvation. Fill my heart with gratitude and humility, and use me to share Your love with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
