“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
Today’s Scripture Lesson
In a world filled with distractions, it’s easy to focus on material needs, future plans, or personal ambitions. But in Matthew 6:33, Jesus invites us to reorder our priorities: to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness above all else.
This verse is part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, where He reassures His listeners not to worry about their needs—what they will eat, drink, or wear. Instead, He calls them to place their trust in God, who knows and provides for every need.
To “seek first” means to make God’s will and purposes the highest priority in our lives. It’s about pursuing a relationship with Him, growing in righteousness, and living in obedience to His commands. When we focus on God’s kingdom, everything else falls into place—not because life becomes problem-free, but because our perspective shifts to trust in God’s provision.
Think of a compass that always points north. When we set our hearts on God’s kingdom, it aligns our choices, thoughts, and actions with His perfect plan. This doesn’t mean neglecting practical responsibilities, but it does mean trusting that when we prioritize God, He will take care of the rest.
How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life
- Start Your Day with God: Spend time in prayer and Scripture each morning, aligning your heart with His will before tackling your to-do list.
- Prioritize God’s Values: Make decisions based on what honors God and furthers His kingdom, rather than seeking only personal gain.
- Trust in God’s Provision: Release worry about your material needs, knowing that God will provide as you focus on living for Him.
Prayer
Lord, help me to seek Your kingdom and righteousness above all else. Teach me to trust in Your provision and prioritize Your will in every area of my life. Give me the faith to release my worries and the wisdom to live in a way that honors You. Thank You for being my provider and sustainer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
