Matthew 5:14–16 (NIV) “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Today’s Scripture Lesson
In a world filled with confusion, conflict, and moral darkness, Jesus calls His followers to be light. Not just to carry light—but to be it. This isn’t a suggestion or a spiritual extra. It’s a core part of your identity as a disciple of Christ.
Light has one job: to shine. It exposes what’s hidden, guides the lost, and brings comfort to those in fear. Just as a city on a hill can’t be missed at night, your life is meant to stand out—not for attention, but for the glory of God. Every act of kindness, every word of truth, and every choice to do right when it’s hard is a beam of light pointing people to Jesus.
But too often, we’re tempted to dim our light—to blend in, stay quiet, or keep our faith hidden out of fear or discomfort. Jesus says don’t do that. Light under a bowl helps no one. It loses its purpose.
You don’t have to be loud to be bright. A steady, faithful life speaks volumes. Whether in your home, workplace, or community, you are placed on a stand by God Himself—to influence, to serve, and to shine.
How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life
- Live Your Faith Publicly and Humbly: Don’t be afraid to let others see your love for Jesus through your daily actions and attitude.
- Serve Others with Intention: Look for ways to do good that point people toward God, not toward yourself.
- Stay Fueled by the True Light: Keep your own lamp burning by spending time in God’s Word and prayer, allowing Him to continually fill you.
A Prayer for Today
Jesus, thank You for calling me to be a light in the world. Help me to shine clearly and consistently, not for my glory but for Yours. Show me where and how You want me to reflect Your love today. May my life bring You honor and draw others to know You. In Your name, Amen.
