The Gift of Eternal Life

The Gift of Eternal Life

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23 (NIV)

Today’s Scripture Lesson

Romans 6:23 presents the reality of two paths: one leading to death and the other to eternal life. Paul explains that sin earns us a wage—death. Just as a worker receives wages for their labor, sin’s payment is spiritual death, which means eternal separation from God.

But the verse does not end there. God, in His mercy, offers us a different outcome—a free gift: eternal life through Jesus Christ. Unlike wages, which are earned, a gift is freely given. We do not deserve it, and we cannot earn it through good works. This is the heart of the Gospel.

Jesus took upon Himself the wages of sin through His death on the cross so that we could receive the gift of salvation. When we place our faith in Him, we are no longer bound by sin’s penalty. Instead, we are given the promise of eternal life, freedom, and a restored relationship with God.

If you have never accepted this gift, God invites you to do so today. Do not rely on your own efforts—receive His grace through faith in Jesus. If you are already a believer, rejoice in the incredible gift you have been given and share it with others who need to hear the Good News.

How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life

Acknowledge the reality of sin: Recognize that apart from Christ, sin leads to spiritual death and separation from God.

Receive God’s gift of salvation: Accept Jesus as your Savior, trusting that His sacrifice on the cross has paid the price for your sins.

Live in gratitude and share the Gospel: Rejoice in the eternal life you have received and share this life-changing message with others.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that my sin leads to death, but I trust in Your grace and mercy. Help me to live each day in gratitude for Your salvation and to share Your love with those who need to know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
