“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)
Today’s Scripture Lesson
Jesus gives us a powerful invitation in Matthew 7:7-8—to come to God with confidence, knowing that He hears us. He uses three action words: ask, seek, and knock. These words indicate persistence, faith, and trust in God’s willingness to respond.
- Ask: We are encouraged to bring our requests to God. He delights in hearing from us and answering according to His perfect will.
- Seek: This goes beyond asking; it means actively pursuing God’s presence, wisdom, and direction.
- Knock: Knocking requires effort and persistence. Sometimes, answers don’t come immediately, but Jesus encourages us to keep knocking in faith.
This passage doesn’t mean that God grants every request exactly as we want. Instead, it reminds us that He is a loving Father who gives what is best for us. Just as a good parent wouldn’t give their child something harmful, God gives us what we truly need, not just what we think we need.
Prayer is not just about receiving blessings; it’s about growing in relationship with God. As we continue asking, seeking, and knocking, we learn to trust His timing and wisdom. If you’ve been praying for something and haven’t seen an answer yet, don’t lose heart. Keep seeking Him, knowing that He hears and responds in love.
How to Apply This Scripture Passage to Your Life
- Pray Boldly: Bring your needs, desires, and struggles to God with faith, knowing that He hears you.
- Seek God’s Will: Pursue Him not just for what He can give, but to know Him more deeply.
- Be Persistent in Faith: Even when answers don’t come immediately, keep trusting that God’s timing and plan are perfect.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for inviting me to ask, seek, and knock. Help me to pray with boldness, trust Your wisdom, and seek You above all else. Strengthen my faith when answers don’t come right away, and remind me that You are always working for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
